# Overview <Card title="Quick API Reference" url="/docs/standard-apis/rules-engine-2-0/api-reference-2"> Explore Rules Engine API endpoints </Card> ## Rules Engine 2.0 The ThingSpace Rules Engine serves as an automation platform for ThingSpace operations. * The system enables automatic execution of transactions (such as alerts and account or device modifications) based on predefined conditions. * Through Real Time Data Usage Reporting (RTR), the Rules Engine empowers customers to manage their devices and connectivity by establishing rule criteria based on transaction patterns, data consumption, or network connection status. * This tool provides a hands-off approach to Internet of Things (IoT) line and device management within the ThingSpace ecosystem. ### Requirements To utilize the Rules Engine, customers must satisfy these requirements: * Hold enterprise customer status with completed ThingSpace onboarding * Implement ThingSpace Real Time Data Usage Reporting (RTR) for data usage monitoring ### Automated Plan Changing Limitations The following restrictions apply to the automated plan changing functionality: * Enterprise Customer Profile Detail (ECPD) accounts cannot use automated plan changing for Fixed Wireless Access (FWA) service lines. * Hybrid ECPDs (combining Machine to Machine (M2M) and FWA services within a single ECPD) are ineligible for this functionality. * Automated plan changing is exclusively available for M2M and dedicated M2M ECPDs. * Current ThingSpace customers requiring exceptions must undergo evaluation by the Offer Development and Contract Implementation Teams for approval or denial. ### Value Proposition The ThingSpace Rules Engine delivers these advantages: * Streamlines bulk connectivity management challenges * Enables ECPD-wide rule configuration * Provides automatic service restoration for suspended lines * Facilitates price plan automation (where applicable) * Automates account share group price plan modifications (when necessary) * Enables automated standalone price plan changes based on Units of Measure (UOM) and aging criteria * Implements automatic suspensions with configurable billing preferences #### Application Examples * Implement service suspension upon reaching usage thresholds * Restore service automatically at the start of subsequent billing cycles * Generate alerts and modify price plans during device migrations * For compatible customer price plans: * Upgrade to higher data allowance plans to prevent overage charges * Configure devices when new monthly data allocations become available ### Implementation Guide Customers can access the Rules Engine through these steps: 1. Access ThingSpace using My Business credentials. 2. Navigate to the Rules section. 3. Click the + button in the upper-right corner. 4. Select the appropriate rule type from the Rules Type dropdown: 1. Network-based rules 2. Usage-based rules 3. Transaction
